The importance of providing religious knowledge together with secular education was a long felt need in the Muslim Community in Sri Lanka.

While several institutions provide such education for boys, there are only few that cater to Muslim girls with appropriate facilities for their complete cultural and educational development in an appropriate Islamic environment.

It is to fill this void, that the idea was conceived to establish the Rifayiya Ladies Arabic College in Kapuwatta, Weligama, which is the first such institution in the Southern Province of Sri Lanka.
