What is this project?

A few Muslims in Colombo, Sri Lanka have come together to initiate an effort to perform 1000 khatams (thamaam) of the Qur'an. The intention is to encourage recitation of the Qur'an as a family project and reap the rewards and blessings from doing so.

How is it done?

We will be issuing a card with the listing of juzz in the Qur'an. When you register, you can request one or more cards and these will be posted too you. You can then either recite the entire Qur'an by yourself or choose to distribute the juzz amongst your friends and family to complete the Qur'an as a group effort. As each juzz is recited, mark it on the card with the date of completion. Once all 30 juzz have been recited, post the card back to the address provided on the card.

For whom are we reciting?

The intention is upto you. You may recite for yourself or on behalf of a deceased person. Our intention with this project is merely to encourage recitation amongst families in Sri Lanka.

How long will it take?

In sha Allah, the project will be launched islandwide in Rabi-ul-Awwal 1438/December 2016. The cards will be posted out to those who have registered. Participants have three months to complete the recitation and post the cards back. We are hoping for the co-operation of the entire Muslim community in Sri Lanka in order to make this project a success.

How many thamaams must we do?

You may request the number of thamaams you are willing to understake. A corresponding number of cards will be issued to you.

Who can participate?

The project is open to any Muslim who is able to recite the Qur'an and is willing to participate. Due to operational constraints, cards can be posted only within Sri Lanka. However, you may involve family and friends who are residing overseas to take up a share of the 30 juzz.

How much does it cost to register?

There is no charge.
